Middle
West Pubnico NS - Camille d'Eon Boatbuilders
is a family owned and operated boat yard that has
been producing vessels since 1944. We are located
on the southwest tip of Nova Scotia in the Village
of Middle West Pubnico where fishing is still the
way of life. All of our vessels, ranging in size from
32 to 55 feet have been tested and proven time and
time again on our often unforgiving North Atlantic
waters. At any time you can find up to three vessels
under construction and 2 vessels on our 50-ton marine
railways. Our vessels are produced for the local and
international markets.
Boatbuilding
through three generations
Edmund
d'Eon began boatbuilding in 1921 when he was 29 years
old. He built boats in the summer for himself and
other fishermen and fished them in the winter. During
the summer of his 17th birthday, Edmund's son Camille,
began boatbuilding with his father. He worked with
him until Edmund's retirement in 1951, when Camille,
then 24, built boats on his own, specializing in pleasure
boats.
In
1978, Craig d'Entremont began working with Camille
and married his daughter, Nicole, in 1980. With the
introduction of fiberglass boats into the fishing
industry, we changed our specialty back to fishing
vessels from pleasure boats.
By continuing to pay close attention
to our finishing touches, and with the addition in
1984 of Camille's son, Maurice, a Marine Diesel Course
graduate, a new breed of fishing vessel was born.
Vessels which are wider, faster, and fully equipped
with modern day technology, are now produced at d'Eon
Boatbuilding.
We still build the occational pleasure
craft or wooden boat. The beauty of the whole operation
is that even after nearly 300 boats, we still build
them one at a time!
